FLAVOURS OF ILOILO

Last March, tourism in Iloilo City went digital as InnoPub and Smart Communications launched the Iloilo Digital Tourism: The QR Code Project at the Iloilo City Hall Penthouse. The project which will position Iloilo at the forefront of digital tourism involves placing of QR Code markers on places of interests and attactions all over Iloilo City. Guests and tourist can then use their mobile devices to scan these codes and a barrage of information about the place will be available at their fingertips. Special QR CODE cupcakes from Tinapayan bakeshop TOURISTS visiting Iloilo now have a handy guide to places to go and things to try as Philippine telecommunications leader Smart Communications, Inc. and new media startup InnoPub Media unveiled its digital tourism program in the province.  Special markers containing QR or quick response codes have been placed in select heritage and tourism areas in Iloilo. When scanned with a phone or tablet, the QR codes trigger the download of information about the tourism site. To be able to download information, however, the gadget needs to be connected to the Internet and have a QR code scanner, which can be downloaded for free in the phone’s application market. Now what are these black and white thingies doing in a food blog? These are called QR Codes - that's for Quick Response Code s which are an improvement for the usual bar codes. First used in the automotive industry, it has now found so many uses that includes web applications like a direct link to webpages via smartphones. Using these codes for my blog will provide direct access to a specific post I want to highlight. To use these codes, you must download a QR code reader app (like NeoReader ) into your smartphone. Then with a wi-fi connectivity , just open the application (it will turn on your camera) and scan the code . Just try to focus the code into the screen and the app will just vibrate if it has correctly scanned. Then it will open a browser page that will show a blogpost compelet with literature, photos and videos about the subject.
