A popular appetizer, almost bordering as a main dish, buffalo wings is a staple in most restaurants. Said to have originated in Buffalo, New York, it is a basically a chicken wing section (wingette or drumette) that is generally deep-fried, unbreaded, and coated in vinegar-based cayenne pepper hot sauce and butter. (Wikipedia). As time went by it has veered away from the traditional flavour into something hip, fun and sometimes " just experimental" - yes, there's Peanut Butter and Jelly Wings somewhere.
Bourbon Street at The Avenue in Smallville recently launched their own take in making this American classic a lot more fun and delicious. Dubbed as Wicked Wings, these three flavors will surely tickle your tastebuds and even ask for more!
Of course I have to star with my favorite which until now I am craving for - Garlic Parmesan. Crispy fried chicken coated with parmesan cheese and garlic that gives a burst of delicious flavour in every bite (I can still taste it just by looking at this photo). It becomes more heavenly when dipped in the cheesy dip it is partnered with. Double the cheese, double the goodness - one more order please! Make that two, instead.
Next was Teriyaki Wings. Though I'm not really a fan of this flavor in general, but I didn't say no to this one especially that it came with a really delicious dip. The combination of the teriyaki sauce and the garlic-mayo(?) dip makes an interesting good flavour combination that I totally forgot that I am not fond of Teriyaki!
Finally, this could almost be a dessert-type of buffalo wings, if there's really one, as this has the flavors of Honey, Mango and Lemon embracing crunchy chicken wings. The mango is the dominant flavor then it becomes sweet (hello, honey) and finally something zesty tickles your tastebuds.
These plays on flavor and knowing them would entice you to try it for curiosity's sake. And when you do, you'd surely say "Wicked!"
