FLAVOURS OF ILOILO

It was a few months ago that I got wind that ANG PINAKA , one of the longest running shows on GMA News TV (even when it was still QTV), will finally be listing the Ang Pinaka Yummy Restos in Iloilo for its monthly food feature. Based on the info I got of their "eatinerary", I had the suspicion that my 2010 blogpost about the 13 Gastronomical Pitstops in Iloilo would play a big role in their list. And a few hours ago, I was right for I had 7 out of 10, though I can say 9, since during the time I made my own list, I have yet to discover the other two. So here's how the list went on... One of the Iloilo City’s favored Chinese restaurants, The Summer House was originally located in the old business district of the city along Calle Real (now J.M Basa street). As time went by and commerce seems to have flourished elsewhere, the restaurant found itself in limbo so to speak. Then years ago, it left its old place and now forms part of the lobby of the Iloilo Midtown Hotel. I was with a group of online buds who were on vacation here in Iloilo. It was not really part of my plans that day but as we were inquiring at the hotel, we suddenly got hungry and right on the spot, it was lunch. Random post about an old chinese restaurant in the heritage district and a relatively new one in the nightlife strip. The Summer House From its original location in JM Basa St, it now forms part of the lobby of Iloilo Midtown Hotel along Solis street and still is a favorite Chinese restaurant even after many years. This was taken when a bunch of friends visited Iloilo for the 1st time. We had lechon kawali, chop suey, pinsec frito and bihon, which they really raved that time. I didn't really have an appetite that time since I had a fever. (due to excitement, I assumed) Red Paprika This restaurant at the Riverside Boardwalk comes with both good view and good food. Well, the latter, that’s when we had lengua and lechon kawali. With bands performing on some days but if you prefer a nice and quiet ambiance, just troop upstairs for a good view of the river and Molo district.
