It was a few months ago that I got wind that ANG PINAKA , one of the longest running shows on GMA News TV (even when it was still QTV), will finally be listing the Ang Pinaka Yummy Restos in Iloilo for its monthly food feature. Based on the info I got of their "eatinerary", I had the suspicion that my 2010 blogpost about the 13 Gastronomical Pitstops in Iloilo would play a big role in their list. And a few hours ago, I was right for I had 7 out of 10, though I can say 9, since during the time I made my own list, I have yet to discover the other two. So here's how the list went on... Green Mango concocts two fruity desserts that will surely be the perfect ending to any delicious meal from Iloilo's very own fast food chain. T he sun never came out today and there’s no sign that the rain will stop any moment. Yes, it’s (still) raining cats and dogs as I am writing this piece. B ut if there’ any consolation for this weather, it’s got to be the arroz caldo I just had for lunch - very simple yet fully satisfying. Not shouting with the usual yellowish color but just the natural hue of sautéed ingredients – chicken pieces and liver. But I just had liver for this session for it’s more photogenic. Arroz means rice and caldo, broth; so it’s just soupy rice. I haven’t tried making one myself, I just enjoy eating it. But based on taste and looks – it may just seem easy. Just sauté chicken pieces in garlic, onion and ginger then add chicken stock and/or chicken flavoured broth cubes. Add rice (sticky or even) but make sure that the rice-liquid ratio is more on the broth side. One can also add “kalawag” powder or turmeric to give more yellowish tint and hardboiled egg as garnish just like in most restaurants specifi...

I really like the convenience brought about by the adjoining branches of Green Mango and Coffeebreak . One can have the best of both fast food and coffee shop worlds in just one sitting. I’m particular about the one in front of the Nelly Garden because it offers a look, literally, into Iloilo’s glorious past while enjoying a cup of coffee or just having a filling lunch. The most recent, at Plaza Libertad, offers a different ambiance though still with an air of heritage brought about by the historic plaza upfront. But the most convenient for me is along Valeria Street - very accessible a nd walkable too, and almost where most of my reviews took place. It was almost like a “fiesta” recently when I visited Green Mango and Coffeebreak Valeria days ago. A late lunch it was but craving for my ultimate favorite – Bistek Tagalog was put on hold when I found out it was recently off the menu. I would have opted for ultimate craving – fried pork chop but I decided to ”beef up” and went for Beef...

Last Friday I attended the blessing of the newest branches of Green Mango and Coffeebreak in Plaza Libertad. Located at Yulo building, these restaurants are just across the historic plaza and stone's throw away from the the brick-clad San Jose Church and the Iloilo City Hall now undergoing construction.
