Bavaria brings a taste of Germany to Iloilo City

Herzlich Wilkommen! A “cordial welcome” as the Germans would say. But even if you don’t hear these words, you will still see, feel and most of all, taste Germany at Bavaria Restaurant . Located along the quiet Seminario Street in Jaro, this quaint little restaurant has been “open secret” among Ilonggo foodies for around 13 years. Like a typical German tavern, the restaurant has given Ilonggos a chance to experience the Deutsch fashion of merry eating and drinking. The Place “I wanted to bring something unique to the Ilonggos and food is always a good option” says Helen Stummer, owner of Bavaria. “And they won’t only appreciate the food but also the setting and ambiance”. True enough, patrons feel a transformation the moment they step in. A narrow hallway brings guests to a cozy dining area that also feels like a museum of sorts. Ornate decorations and displays in true German fashion harmonize the dainty fixtures. Wooden panels give the interior a warm and cozy ambian...

Dinagyang 2012: An awesome gastronomic experience!

It was my busiest Dinagyang celebration ever! For 5 days and 4 nights, it was all about food, food and food as I made my way around town joining in the festivities that highlights as the same time "sidelights" the festival. I've discovered new places, new dishes, new events and especially new friends who share almost the same passion. It was indeed an enjoyable and awesome celebration of Dinagyang 2012 . First stop was the home of one of Iloilo's most celebrated chefs, Ms. Maridel Uygongco . I tagged along through the invitation Ms. Regine Algecera , executive producer of two cable tv shows (for both Sky Cable and Cable Star). In her kitchen, Ms Maridel demonstrated the preparation of her YSL recipe she made during the My City, My SM, My Cuisine event. It was a very casual video shoot with all of us enjoying not only the designer ibos she prepared but also the fun of it all. I then rushed to Maki Japanese Restaurant where a friend celebrated his birthday p...

Bavaria brings Germany to Iloilo City

Tucked in one of the side streets toward the plaza of Jaro district is a small “typical German restaurant and bar” aptly named Bavaria . Described as a taste of Germany in Iloilo City, this quaint little restaurant quietly is actually an open secret among foodies in the city. Owned by Helen Stummer, Bavaria lets the Ilonggos experience the Deutsch fashion of merry eating and drinking. Designed like an old fashioned German tavern, patrons feel a transformation of ambiance the moment they step in. After passing through a narrow hallway, a cozy dining area awaits customers who feel like to have entered a museum of sorts because of the ornate decorations and displays in true German fashion. Bavaria is mainly a bar that serves German drinks but it also dishes quite a number of German specialties. Somewhat the restaurant’s menu has expanded to include other cuisine like Spanish and the typical Filipino to attract more guests. But it is the German gastronomic specialties that are really aut...

Tucked in one of the many sidestreets surrounding Jaro plaza is a restaurant that for years have given Ilonggos a taste of Germany. Aptly named as Bavaria, this restaurant and bar, not only serves authentic German cuisine and delicacies but also makes one feel like being in a German foodshop. With authentic German decors, utensils, etc, the visit itself to the restaurant itself is already worth it. Owned by a German national who also owns Nagarao Island resort in Guimaras and a pensione house above this restobar. A small hallway leading inside the restaurant. The bar with authentic German beer and more Aside from these German beers, they also serves local beers and softdrinks Their menu (Googling translates it simply as Food and Drinks ) A typical combo meal with meat and side dishes (I LOVE their sauerkraut-that thing in the middle) They also serve non-German dishes just like this seafood paella And ofcourse genuine German beer! A trip to Bavaria restobar is more than gastronomy, it...
