Croinuts from JD Bakery

The craze that took the whole word in 2013 - cronuts! Now, JD Bakery made its own version calling is croinuts and with the JD trademark - it's inexpensive. Though compared with its other products it may come out as expensive but for a cronut its almost half the price selling from PhP25-28 each. It comes in choco-caramel, mango, strawberry, custard and apple variants. Apple croinuts Choco-caramel croinuts Custard croinuts Mango croinuts Strawberry croinuts

The JD brunch

A few weeks ago, I met a friend from Manila and toured her and her kids around Iloilo City hours before their flight back home. It started with a breakfast that tuned out to be a brunch after all. We went to JD Cafe and Bakeshop at The Roadhouse and as usual our peso went long way. The pancit molo came in a medium sized bowl and for the prices I paid (PhP21++) it was already worth it. Not that it was spectacular or tasted very good, but you can't get a more decent bowl of pancit molo than this at the same price. It has around seven large pancit molo balls and enough chicken strips and flavour too to make it worthwhile. Their chicken ala king is among the most popular. For Php27++, it's just a few slices of toast topped with a creamy chicken and vegetable concoction. Just a light snack and perfect side to some pasta or soups they have. And lastly their fresh lumpia was a rediscovery. I got some not so good memories of their fresh lumpia before - I never really liked how i...

Lots of sweets from JD Bakeshop

JD Bakery and Cafe is among the pigging out food places in Iloilo City for the reason that it stretches your peso longer. Nowhere you can find such ambiance and food quality for a much bargain price. From their short orders for meals and snacks to their baked goods and desserts, it is such a gastronomic pleasure for less. I found this photo of JD's cakes and desserts display online ans what struck me is that I've tried them all before. Except for that "green" cake ( at the right, above the ube cake), my foodtrips at JD have in one way or the other made my taste buds familiar with these desserts (lol). Among my favorite is their simple yet delicious Buko Royale . Not too sweet yet it makes a perfect dessert. The Choco Moist is a simple chocolate cake bar smothered with dark and white chocolate - simple decadence. The Brazo de Mercedes is just like most, sinfully appetizing. The Decadent cake is their own version of a moist chocolate cake but the one I tried wasn...

JD Bakeshop's butter chewies

This is JD Bakeshop's answer to the Iloilo butterscotch craze. Not actually butterscotch but can almost pass as one. Part of their dessert squares collection, these chewies can be bought by piece yet this one came packed in 6's (but only 2 left when I got hold of it.) As it is called, they are "buttery" and chewy reminiscent of Rgies butterscotch. They are twice as big as those ordinary butterscotch and tastes better than those I have reviewed. They may look ordinary but tastes better than expected. They also have chocolate chewies which I will blog about soon.

JD Bakeshop's Butter Chewies

JD Bakeshop is among the biggest and more established bakeshops in Iloilo City but surprisingly they dont have what is considered to be Iloilo's moist soiught after pasalubong item, butterscotch. My quest however made me discover that they almoist have one, this pack of butter chewies. AT 33 pesos per pack of 6, they almost taste like a butterscotch. They are soft, moist and chewy plus nutty too. In fact they even taste better than most "butterscotch" made by other bakeshops just to be "in" in this butterscotch craze.

Paborita biscuits

I dont know why these biscuits are called as such. Could have been someone's favored biscuit at that time. With this one coming from JD Bakery, it seems its tastes almost the same as theur galletas, a smaller and compact version. Still another addicting snack.

This & that

I have been a fan of Lala fish crackers since it came out years ago. From being packed in ordinary clear plastic to its present foil vacuum packaging. With new flavours like sweet & chili and salt & vinegar, it really has come a long way. PhP15.50 each I gave up my trip to Deco's batchoy for this Bolo bola sio pao of Goldilocks and regretted that decision. Php 39 But I was more satisfied eating JD's monggo ensaymada. PhP13.50 each

One gastronomic Sunday

What a gastronomic blast I had last Sunday! I had an early lunch at Pecho Pak at the same time continuing my blogquest for the best chicken inasal and pancit Molo in the city Enjoyed sio mai and fresh lumpia bought at a mini food fair at The Atrium and observed Tinapayan's preparation for their annual chocolate affair that started today. Unexpectedly met a friend at SM Delgado and we (again) raided JD Cafe at the Roadhouse Finally ended the day at the newest Coffeebreak branch at The Avenue.

JD Cafe again?!?!

I was planning to visit JD to include it in my search for the best pancit Molo in the city but as expected, this turned out to be another "raid" with my regular JD partner in crime showing unexpectedly. Though wasn't really hungry that time, I couldn’t say no since for I have a quest there. As usual, it was the Roadhouse branch where we had our late dinner and around 9pm, the place was full packed inside out. Aside from pancit Molo, I had chicken macaroni salad, a blueberry cheesecake and iced tea. ( Hmmm, I did say I wasn't hungry, right? Well.... ) Their pancit Molo was perfect. The soup tasted great, there were plenty of chicken strips, a very generous number of pancit Molo balls ( around seven I think ) and no traces pancit lang lang. But the best part is, it's only 21 pesos! Yup one of the more affordable items in the menu. But when I tasted the Molo balls, now I know why it’s very cheap. The filling was a total letdown. No, it wasn't the size of th...

JD Bakeshop's meat rolls

A favorite baon item, these chicken and asado rolls from JD bakeshop has been a staple of most canteens and groceries because of its "saleability". With its new packaging, (really liked the "Prouldly made in Iloilo" seal), it still has the same blend of filling I loved before and still not fully filled. But I can't complain since its really light on the pocket.
