Kansi and Grilled Tilapia at HOME by Midway

With its homey ambiance, it's no wonder it's called Home by Midway , located just across SM Delgado. And the food looks and tastes like the ones served at home. Like this small kaldero of Kansi, which is a cross between bulalo and sinigang. Beef shanks cooked until "tenderly off the bones", soured by batwan , hued by istiwitis (achuete or annatto) with unripe langka cubes with sili pangsingang providing the "kick". >>>  Click here for Sample Recipe And ofcourse, the plain and simple grilled tilapia whose aroma and taste would bring memories of home. Made even more appetizing with atsara ( click for sample recipe ) and with a toyo-mansi dip. All these would always make me ask for "Extra Rice, please".

Pat-Pat's Kansi House: Home of the Ilonggo Bulalo

The onslaught of Ilonggo restaurants invading the big city continues with Pat-Pat's Kansi House . Popular among Ilonggos, kansi is the local version of bulalo - stew made from beef shanks and marrow bones. And Pat-Pat's Kansi House is among the more popular restaurants where one can indulge in this cholesterolific dish. It's popularity has now "gone out" of Iloilo City as more and more branches of this native fastfood mushroom throughout Manila. These photos ( thanks to OBOI of SSC forums ) were from it's newest branch in BF Homes Paranaque. Quite a leap in terms of ambiance from it's original branch in Jaro, Iloilo City yet still serves the good ol' kansi, Ilonggos love and non-Ilonggo discover.

Ocean City

Ocean city is one restaurant which became more popular after having a major overhaul. After transferring to Gen. Luna street from their former riverside location, it seemed business to have improved being along a busy street and a gastronomic strip. The restaurant is divided into two sections, an airconditioned order by the menu and an open air turo turo style. Its usual for us to take out their specialties for home meals especially their kansi (Ilonggo bulalo) but their KBL (kadyos baboy langka) surprised us recent since it was actually good for the price half of that of the kansi.
