Pan de Nora

I was intrigued by its looks, a sort of filled cookie, but was even intrigued by it's name, Pan de Nora. I never asked why it was called a such for I was more interested in the filling. But when I was told it was buttercream, then I concluded it was just variety of another buttercream filled bread, Spanish roll. And I was right, it tasted like one but the bread was sort of "crisp" and that made the difference

Very commercialized fruit pies

Throughout the country, one can usually find these layered-filled breads passing out as "pies". Buko and pineapple pies to be exact. In reality these are just flavoured and colored "cornstarch" with minute bits of buko and pineapples. Just for fun I decided to buy whatever was available in the bakery today. Too bad I was late for their buko pandan pie. The buko and pineapple pies I got from sari Sari breadstore while the "authentic-looking" pineapple pie from a local bakery here in our town. The buko pie costs 5 pesos, pineapple 3 pesos while the better looking one 10 pesos. Their costs seem to justify how they taste.

Ensaimada from Sari -Sari Breadstore

One of my "reinventions" for my blog. Got these festive ensaimadas mainly because for their tempting sugary-butter toppings. I then added more cheese to make them more photogenic. In the end its just a very ordinary bread shaped into an ensaimada, colored to make it stand out, topped with butter-sugar-cheese "frosting" and sold for PhP5 a piece. Not bad though.
