JD Cafe again?!?!

I was planning to visit JD to include it in my search for the best pancit Molo in the city but as expected, this turned out to be another "raid" with my regular JD partner in crime showing unexpectedly. Though wasn't really hungry that time, I couldn’t say no since for I have a quest there.
As usual, it was the Roadhouse branch where we had our late dinner and around 9pm, the place was full packed inside out. Aside from pancit Molo, I had chicken macaroni salad, a blueberry cheesecake and iced tea. ( Hmmm, I did say I wasn't hungry, right? Well....)

Their pancit Molo was perfect. The soup tasted great, there were plenty of chicken strips, a very generous number of pancit Molo balls ( around seven I think ) and no traces pancit lang lang. But the best part is, it's only 21 pesos! Yup one of the more affordable items in the menu.

But when I tasted the Molo balls, now I know why it’s very cheap. The filling was a total letdown. No, it wasn't the size of the Molo balls but it’s what was inside. I think it had more extenders in the form of vegetables and barely had meat at all. I was really dismayed but not totally since it’s only the filling that made it "bad" otherwise it would have been perfect. I think it's worth another taste test soon.

Their chicken macaroni salad and blueberry cheesecake were just okay, nothing spectacular. Their salad with thousand island dressing and Concorde cake was just the same, nothing to rave about.

We all have different tastes and don't let my opinions hinder you. Besides JD is one of the more affordable cafe and bakery in town though I still have doubts in the quality of some of their products, except their club sandwich of course. Even with all the "setbacks" I still would say it's worth going (back) there especially with an empty stomach (and pockets. )

Fruits from the grocery

These packs of cut up fruits were bought from SM Delgado's grocery. Got enticed by their color and luckily, they were as good as they looked, especially the papaya. Each was just less than Php 22, really a bargain!

Ultimate Ilonggo Favorite: KBL Kadyos, Baboy, Langka

K.B.L. or Kadyos, Baboy, Langka is the ultimate favorite dish of most Ilonggos. It is also one of the most missed native dishes as kadyos and the souring ingredient, batwan , are hard to find when outside of the Ilonggo region.  Basically, it is boiled/stewed pork dish owing its "deliciousness" to the combination of the soft and tender pork, the tamed sourness of  batwan  and the  malinamnam na sabaw .  One of the "secrets" of the malinamnamn na sabaw , is the fact that the pork, whether just the plain meat or pata (hocks) are first grilled or broiled. This gives the broth a rather smoky taste that makes it more appetizing.. Learn how to make the Ilonggo dish KBL (Kadyos, Baboy, at Langka) with the recipe below. Ingredients 1 kilo Pata (pork hocks) or pork cubes, GRILLED and sliced into bite size pieces  1 unripe Jack fruit, cubed 2 cups pigeon pea (kadyos) 6-8 pieces batwan fruit  (or tamarind powder) 1 piece pork broth cube (

An Ilonggo favorite - Valenciana

Found in almost all occasions like fiesta, birthdays, reunions and others, Ilonggos really love valenciana because most if not all have grown accustomed of having it in special gatherings at home.  A complete " go, grow and glow " dish because it has the carbohydrates, protein and vitamins and minerals in just one spoonful, Valenciana is really an " occasional dish ".  Here's the recipe for Valenciana

Quix! Mart now open at Stoplight-Diversion Road

Steady but surely, home grown and local convenience store Quix! Mart is on a roll. Opening its 4th branch at the busy intersection known as "Stoplight", the 24/7 mini mart will "make life in Iloilo easy and convenient". With no less than Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog leading the opening rites, the opening of this local brand's fourth branch is a testament of the very good business climate Iloilo City is currently going through. Even with the entry of big developers and international chains, local businesses thrive and go with the business flow. Located near one of Iloilo's very own university belt, Quix!
