Few weeks ago, much to my surprise, I got dinner gift card from Piazza Pizzeria. It seemed the restaurant owner traced my personal account on Facebook and gave me a gastronomic Christmas present. I’ve never really met the owner, Ms. Nina, in person but sort of communicated online through my blog when I featured the restaurant before.
That was the first time I’ve been to the restaurant and their Supreme Pizza left a lasting impression on me that every I went to Piazza or the restaurant beside it, Uncle Tom’s, I always order that pizza. (Yes, you can “import” orders (foods but not drinks) from the pizzeria even if you’re at Uncle Tom’s).
So aside from the plate of Uncle Tom’ fried chicken and Pancit Bam-I that time, we got complimentary items from Piazza consisting of a Family Supreme Pizza -thanks for the upsize :) , two servings of barbecued chicken with java rice, a plate of baked scallops and two mini pitchers of freshly squeezed lemonade. As all my previous visits only just had the pizza, I had no idea how these would fare; Piazza being marketed as an Italian restaurant - meaning pizza and pasta.
The baked scallops came first and my scallops “repertoire” is limited to just either Tatoy’s or Breakthrough’s but these are more on the native side. Even though I had it already at room temperature (my fault because of the blogging rituals I do before actually eating – taking gazillions of photos!), Piazza’s scallops were a revelation. The aroma when it was served was already appetizing but the real thing? Subtly seasoned but surprisingly full of flavour plus tender, juicy and almost melts in the mouth!
The chicken barbecue were pieces of cut up chicken parts served on two sticks. It almost looks like pork barbecue until one gets a taste of it. Just by looking at it, I almost tasted the barbecue goodness but it tasted much better than expected. Juicy, well-marinated and tender, it came perfect with the tangy sauce dip and the Java rice it came with. It, sort of, overshadowed the fried chicken Uncle Tom’s is famous for-lol.
Of course, what can I say about the Supreme Pizza but great as usual. I don’t have the complete list of toppings but being the “supreme”, it could almost have everything the pizzeria had to offer. I always forget to order it with additional pesto sauce to complement the tomato sauce. The crust still remains crisp even after a few minutes after its served and one gets to feel a crunch on every bite.Finishing off our sumptuous meal (Uncle Tom’s fried chicken and pancit bam-i were good as usual) were mini pitchers of freshly squeeze lemonade. Ice-cold with the right blend and subtle sourness and restrained sweetness that proved to be a perfect thirst quencher. All I can say is that I could finish even a gargantuan size pitcher of this drink and still ask for more.
I will surely find time to meet with Ms. Nina to give my personal thanks not only for this gift card but for giving Ilonggos something worthy to gastronomically spend their money on. A taste of something familiar but not really the usual, something that seems ordinary but always turns out very special!
---------------
NOTE: I decided to personally order a family size pizza at the resto, rather than requesting the waiter, hoping to personally meet Ms. Nina. But she was out of town and I almost paid my order when, for receipt purposes, the servers got my name and it sort of rang a bell. It seems that Ms Nina left a note to the person in charge about the gift and even with me not presenting it, I was still entitled to it. Though I wasn’t planning on redeeming it that night, I decided to have it so that more people can experience what I had before. Thank you!
