No, this isn’t Lady Gaga’s venture into food business but is a pizza Made In Heaven, that’s quite literal in a way. You see, a food product company named Made In Heaven branched out into pizza thus this yummy business was born.
I’ve been meaning to check this out months ago, when a friend referred it to me but I was just so busy. And when I got to stroll around SM City Iloilo (which is just once in a while), I never found it. I searched the line food stalls fronting the grocery and even went inside the cold section but in vain.
Until I read a feature on The News Today (check out my column FLAVORS every Thursday), wherein it thanked this pizza stop ang gave a details on where it can be found, then I had a clear mind set where to go next.
On a rather stormy day, I decided to troop down the mall and eureka! I finally found it! It was hidden in plain sight - just a table with boxes of pizzas, an oven and a display. It’s between the pasalubong and wine sections of the mall’s grocery across the activity center.
An Italian flag that says “Buy One Take One” greets passersby and raking a second look and seeing PhP88 only raises curiousity. It was then explained that the “Take One” is a garlic and cheese pizza when one buys any of the special pizzas – pepperoni and ham & mushrooms that time.
I had a rather hard time choosing between the special pizzas but finally decided on the latter despite the fact the former is the best seller. After paying for order, I was surprised to only see one box of pizza – I was informed there were two inside, stacked on top of each other.
Well, there’s goes my plan of taking a photo of these pizza mindful that it could have been ruined (only a blogger’s dilemma - LOL). When I got home ( got stuck for awhile for it was raining cats and dogs – I think I may have stepped on a poodle ), though I was hungry, I started my simple photoshoot.
The garlic and cheese pizza got stuck in the box but it was only minimal so I still got some appetizing photos. One order has four slices so with the “Take One” it makes eight. Good enough for four but I am sure I could finish all these eight slices. The aroma of Italian herbs and spices filled the air (even on the way home), and yes they can really be tasted too. I reheated them in the oven to get the crunch on the dough.
Even the simple cheese and garlic pizza was flavourful though it looks as if is not. The dough may not be special but you’ll certainly finish it all up because there’s no part without tomato sauce and cheese. The ham and mushroom, as expected was better. The ham isn’t the usual one you’d find on “Filipinized’ pizzas. It almost borders on the bacon side – like the ones served during Noche Buena.
Though it may not as polished as others nor as heavy on the sauce, cheese and toppings but the approach of having a convenient, affordable and “home-cooked style” pizza is well worth it. Almost a square foot, Alejandro’s Gourmet Pizza is “pound for pound” a good buy for those on the go wanting to indulge on something of good value – in taste and in price.
