Breakfast buffet at Belmont Hotel Manila


Back in 2019, I remember having lunch at Cafe Belmont during one of my Manila trips. 

It was that serving dish of crabs that had me at first glance and it never faded in my memory. 



Now, five years later, it’s the breakfast buffet that would tickle my gastronomic fantasies. 


We stayed at Belmont Hotel Manila for my parents 50th anniversary and for two days we had our fill of delicious breakfast.

From the staples like bacon, ham and sausages to Pinoy faves like tuyo, dilis and danggit. I just love this kind of spread of which local faves go side by side with contemporary fares. 



As the first meal of the day where one stocks up carbo, I’m glad there was plenty. From rice, potatoes and pancit to pancakes, waffles and breads - I love the pudding.



There’s an egg station where you can request how you would like your eggs cooked - hardboiled, sunny side up or scrambled



You can DIY your omelette with lots of fillings to choose from with the assistance from one of on-duty chefs.


There’s alway a pair of soup dishes - one with local flair and the other mostly Western style - I remember the sotanghon and the pumpkin soup choices.


The breakfast spread is varied - there’s always something for everyone. 



Proteins are also abundant - from pork, fish, beef and chicken. Picadillo, bangus with tausi, beef steak and roast chicken to mention a few.



You can balance them by making your own salad with the freshest ingredients from the salad station - a combo of lettuce, cucumber, carrots and cheese with Thousand Island dressing always works for me. 



Or you can just choose the prepared salads if you want.



One of my fave stations is the one having yogurt and muesli. I just love the sweet and sour taste sensation in my tummy to start the day. 



Thirsty? You wont be as the buffet has lots of beverage offerings - from coffee and tea to fruit juices and infused water. 



The dessert station is always an eye-candy. Mini cakes come in different flavors and colors and served side by side with some kakanin - puto, biko, kutsinta, sapi-sapin, etc.



Don’t forget your cup of the Pinoy breakfast on the go staple - taho. 



Imagine, all these food choices for two days in a row!



Now that’s really an unforgettable gastronomic adventure.

Buffet breakfast at Cafe Belmont is on a first-come, first served basis DAILY from 6AM to 10AM. 


They take NO RESERVATIONS for breakfast buffet.

It is also one of the most missed native dishes as kadyos and the souring ingredient, batwan , are hard to find when outside of the Ilonggo region.  Basically, it is boiled/stewed pork dish owing its "deliciousness" to the combination of the soft and tender pork, the tamed sourness of  batwan  and the  malinamnam na sabaw .  One of the "secrets" of the malinamnamn na sabaw , is the fact that the pork, whether just the plain meat or pata (hocks) are first grilled or broiled. A native delicacy called Inday-inday

Now you may ask, what is Inday-Inday ? It's another repetitive-feminine named native delicacy that is made from rice like its more popular sister - baye-baye . While the latter is has its own original flavor and make, inday-inday is actually a combination of two well loved native delicacies - muasi ( palitaw ) and bukayo . But the muasi portion is not the the usual palitaw  recipe for the it's more firm and gummy (I don't know the English term for kid-ol ). Actually its more like a hardened kutsinta and this makes it more to my liking since I'm not really fond of muasi in the first place.  And its not quite easy to find inday-inday in the market today, though I've seen and tried it in Sabor Ilonggo stalls but their's is more like suman latik for the based is ibos -like. Muasi

A confession to start this blogpost - I consider MUASI as one of my hated native delicacies given its bland taste even with the sugar dip. But that was back during my childhood days. Maybe be because I may have used less sugar or might have completely forgotten to "dip" it at all. An Ilonggo favorite - Suman Latik

Suman Latik is one of my favorite native delicacies - plain suman/ibos topped with sweetened coconut strips or bukayo . Most of the time those sold in the markets have this two (suman and bukayo) already in one wrap and all you have to to is devour it. But most of the time, the bukayo portion is bitin that I wish there's more. So why not make our own suman latik so you can have all the suman we want with all the bukayo toppings we desire!
