Our second to the last food stop for the day brought us to Pansititoy? Yup, this Pinoy "fastfood" is named as such to deliver "two hits" at once - their house specialty which is Pancit Malabon and name recall for the place. Now, will you forget the word Pancititoy? Started sometime in 2006, this joint gathered specialties from all over the country to be brought into one stop for convenience and enjoyed for less.
I was part of Sooo Pinoy, Food Trip na Pilipinas! which is set to visit 300 restaurants in 10 key regions/areas all over the Philippines. Davao is the 4th food stop after Iloilo, Boracay and Cebu that started last March. The goal of the Food Trip is to show that Filipino dishes per region have different identities based on the culture, lifestyle and history of the area. The Food Trip also aims to show that there are many Filipino recipes from different regions of the Philippines, each having its own specialty that has to be recognized for the unique flavor it adds to the Filipino Cuisine.
I always love any pansit with "yellow/orange" sauce be it palabok, luglug or Malabon. So it wasn't really surprising that it was the first thing I dived into during this pre-dinner visit at Pansititoy. It was so good and it surely carried the torch up high as the banner product of the this food joint.
Still on the play of words, they also have "fried" specialties collectively are branded as "Crispititoy". They have lechon kawali/fried pork belly, fried tuna panga, chicharon bulaklak, fried chicken (Chikititoy) and crispy pata (Crispatitoy).
We had the ultimate fried specialty - crispatitoy and it was really appetizing from the first crunch to the last crisp. See that piece of skin on the bone, you can really hear the crunch once they are separated!
Not surprising they serve batchoy but good thing it didn't carry the "Lapaz" since it didn't quite taste the ones we have here in Iloilo. But it was good enough to freshen at teh same tiem satisfy the gastronimic memories of those yearning for one including myself. As we end this part with noodles and fried specialties, I can't help but miss this enjoyable fraction of the food trip - maybe it was the batchoy memories at the same time the savory pancit malabon and the ever crunch crispy pata. Only at Pansititoy!
Filipinos are encouraged to join and support the Sooo Pinoy movement, a partnership between Unilever Food Solutions and the Department of Tourism, and go on a gastronomic adventure that both fills the stomach and enriches our awareness of our own identity. To know more about the campaign, food lovers are invited to like the Sooo Pinoy page on Facebook and follow @SoooPinoy on Twitter
