My 6 year old nephew has never gotten over his Molten Lava experience at Bluejay Coffee and Deli that he always had been clamoring for it. So one Saturday we found ourselves at the Amigo Plaza mall branch of this posh café to satisfy his cravings. It also served as a treat since he got a high score in his mid quarter exams. At first we ordered two Chef Burgers, Baked Penne pasta and Molten Lava, but upon knowing that promo items aren’t covered with gift vouchers, I had an instant order of menu items - Country Clubhouse and Raspberry iced tea. That’s why we had an order good for 3 persons – 2 sandwiches, 1 pasta, 1 dessert and 3 glasses of iced tea.
His favorite turned out to be the Baked Penne Pasta. He finished all of it leaving me a small portion of it. It was actually a piece of cheese that cemented itself in the pasta bowl. It came hot to our table (glad they listened to our suggestions during the taste test) but it my fault that it was eaten “cold” since I had to wait for our other orders to arrive for me to get a photo of the whole “scenery”. And that’s why the cheese became rock hard – no kidding. But still it was delicious just like the last time.A close second was the Chef Burger which we requested for “take out” and was eaten while we were walking around Smallville that afternoon. He wanted it plain so I removed the tomatoes and greens. Back at the café, it was presented well but the lettuce was so distracting – it was so big it could pass as the wrapper of the burger. I also had the last bite of this burger when my nephew said he was already full and it still tasted good.He ranked the Country Clubhouse as third, maybe he was already full of the pasta and iced tea, but I saw his enthusiasm in devouring it that time. He said it was so big with his mouth making an “O”. Not so surprising, he finished almost half of this club sandwich, of course taking off the greens and tomatoes – and getting my share of the ham and bacon. What I thought would be another take out was finished instantly in the restaurant with ease. Despite it’s “poor ranking”, I can see how he loved this sandwich and wished for more. It was much better than the last time I had it.And unexpectedly, what we came for at Bluejay, Molten Lava turned out to be last in his list. I think it was the fact that he was already full – pasta, sandwich, iced tea. But he still managed half of this decadent dessert. This is the one I enjoyed most since the last time I ordered this; my nephew finished it all up. But this one was served perfectly – unlike the one we had at the Gen. Luna branch that looked like a devastated Mt. Pinatubo. This one was as perfect as Mt Mayon, “picturesque” at any angle. It also tasted much better since it was not as sinful as the last time. It was really a perfect ending to our gluttony (lol) as me and my nephew enjoyed the food, ambiance and experience we had at Bluejay Coffee and Deli.
