If the name doesn’t excite you then maybe this snapshot will. I may not be a professional photographer nor have sophisticated gadgets but this photo really show what it really is - super gooey!
Among the more interesting item in the dessert menu of Amular Photography and Café at Plazuela de Iloilo, this super gooey caramel pie is already in the best seller list. Though I’ve been to this café many times, it is was my first time order one last Saturday when my nephew and I went there to satisfy our sweet cravings.
We had Mocha and Strawberry shakes (my favorite Vanilla Vertigo was unavailable) to go with the super gooey caramel pie and a-would-have-been pork floss bun. But the attendants seem very busy chatting among themselves that they eventually forgot the bun inside the oven toaster so it got burned. As it was the last piece of bun I had to content myself with the Carrot Cupcake and good thing it was also yummy – very filling and full of the carroty goodness with just the right sweetness glaze.
But it was really the super gooey caramel pie that made the day. With a thick graham-butter crust and a very generous caramel topping, it’s one sinful dessert I’d confess to. Not the usual caramel with a burnt after taste, this one seem to be dulce de leche made with condensed milk (in can) boiled with tender loving care for hours.
I can only assume its recipe but it almost tastes like the one we make at home - only this one is a lot denser and yes more gooey. Each slice costs a very well spent Php45, while the cupcake around Php35 with the shakes Php70 each. And I will surely be back again for a Vanilla Vertigo shake, an un-burnt Pork Floss bun and a looks-good-tastes-even-better Super Gooey Caramel pie.
