Christmas is the season of indulgent eating as a galore of gastronomic delights just beckons almost from everywhere. Parties at school and offices, reunions here and there, fiestas in some towns and of course the much anticipated (and at times dreaded) noche buena and media noche feast. But don't worry I'm not here to lecture on how to diet or control your gastronomic urges this season. I'll make it even more indulgent with these great dessert selections from Bluejay Coffee and Deli.
Starting with their Chocolate Midnight Cake but I like to call it "Death by Chocolate". It's chocolate from all angles from the chocolate cake base, chocolate and caramel filling, chocolate ganache finish and topping it all off chocolate shavings. It if you chocolate anytime, this cake will surely make your day!
I love this Walnut Cappuccino Roulade cake. The first time I orderedc this cake, coffee was poured over this cake but it wasn't supposed to be but i really liked it that time. Coffee flavoured cake wrapped in coffee icing and finished off with chooped walnuts on the side. Delicious as it looks but I'd still pour coffee over this cake anytime -lol
From a nut to another - Pistachio Torte. One of my favorites, this multilayered cake is often made with very little flour and ground nuts or breadcrumbs, egg yolks, sugar and stiffly beaten egg whites. Filled with rich buttercream and sprinkled with pistachio - wow! Gimme more!
Here's one that really needssomething to be poured in - a Rum Cake. Bluejay Coffee's’s signature dessert is Rum Cake + Espresso -- a perfect combination of the intoxicatingly delicious flavors of cake and the rich, smooth kick of espresso. Read more
Another rich dessert is Tiramisu and Bluejay makes this heavenly Italian dessert with the finest imported ingredients. It is made of biscuits dipped in coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of eggyolks and mascarpone and flavored with liquor and cocoa. Truly indulgent and festive even with no season or reason at all!
Something fruitty is a good break from the rich chocolatey desserts. And none can be compared to sweet mangoes infused into layers of vanilla cake and iced with more vanilla and mangoes. Freshness that you can still label as indulgent - Bluejay's Mango Passion Cake.
L' Opera Cake is a type of French cake made with layers of almond sponge cake soaked in coffee syrup, layered with ganache and coffee buttercream and covered in a chocolate glaze. Having a forkful of this one can make non singers like me carry out a tune singing of its delectable richness!
Brownies are often overlooked when placed side by side with other desserts mainly because they are too common. Until I delved into it revealing a rich and chewy, chocolatey and moist, and sweet but not too sweet piece of cake. One bite was all it took for me to taste the deep chocolate flavour from the imported chocolates used. Quality walnuts provide the perfect crunch in every bite. Finally, the crisp and crumbly top layer (almost) recreates the crisp outside, soft and chewy inside “cliché” and makes this Fudge Brownie something to look forward to next visit.
Irresistible is Bluejay's Double Dutch Mocha Pudding. A rich chocolate covered mocha pudding and marshmallow as toppings. The pudding is expertly concocted - mocha flavoured which is creamy and savory with tamed sweetness to complement the chocolate ganache. A perfect partner with a Bluejay's coffee.
I love Creme Brulees and Bluejay's makes a very good one. The custard base is very creamy and savoury yet not overwhelming with sweetness. It feels soft to the tongue that is almost melts. The hard caramel topping provided a good contrast in both texture and taste making this dessert always soemthing to look forward to in my next visits.
Ahhh - Chocolate Velvet Cake. Actually its not a cake but an actual chocolate shaped and textured to be like a cake. Daintily designed, this very rich dessert is every chocoholics dream - yummy chocolate on a graham base. One of the most unforgettable cakes I had at Bluejay!
One of the better presented cakes, this Chocolate Cointreau is among the premium desserts at Bluejay. With a fluffy chocolate cake flavoured with cointreau - a liquer with orange essence. Each bite defines indulgence as this cake is made with imported ingredients but with a homegrown Ilonggo gastronomic touch.
As simple as it is named, this Chocolate Coffee Cake is perfect with a cup of Bluejay's coffee. Whether dipped or eaten on the side, each bite brings out the rich goodness of the chocolates infused in the cake and the coffee provides a tinge that can perk up any ordinary day. Enjoy the awesome goodness of this simple yet delicious cake.
I'm a very big fan of carrots cakes and Bluejays version makes me wanna line up for an autograph. A very compact cake yet soft in every bite, Bluejay's Carrot Walnut Cake is something I can eat almost everyday- though I may shave off the buttercream on top. Almost a healthy alternative given that is has carrots and walnuts but it doesn't matter - it's delicious!
I hate cheesecakes! Nah! Just kidding. Who can hate this lovely Blueberry Cheesecake oozing with the sweet blueberries on top of delectable cheesecake? I am almost speechless when I came face to face with creation that I just grabbed the fork and started devouring like there's no tomorrow-lol.
Among the crowd pleasers and the "you-wont-go-wrong" orders at Bluejay is their Banoffee Tart. Every bite is complimented of how it tasted good, how creamy it was, how fresh the bananas were and more. One thing though that tart that holds the banana was so hard that it made each forkful a challenge. But I would overlook this challenge since you'll be rewarded with an indulgent and blissful dessert in every bite.
From bananas, now it's apples and this Apple Cobbler is a delight to have since I personally like apple pie and this cobbler is the closest I get at Bluejay - hmmm do they have apple pie already? I juts love the scent and taste of apples with cinnamon that I can finish this big order of cobbler in not time at all.
Never tasted bananas these good in a cake but with walnut and chocolate – it’s super wow! Though it may not look much on the display nor the way it was served, but in the end, 'twas the taste that mattered. One can easily forget it’s a cake for the taste of perfectly ripe bananas overwhelms the taste buds, as if one just peeled a ripe banana and took a bite. Then comes the flavour rich chocolate and then the crunch of the walnuts making a perfect mélange of ingredients making this Chocolate Banana Walnut Choco Chip Cake from Bluejay Coffee and Deli, an instant hit on the first bite.
And it ended just like this? Time flies when you're having fun. Indeed desserts at Bluejay Coffee and Deli will make you forget time and depending on how many you consume, you may just feel floating (and bloating?) in this dessert haven in Iloilo City.
