Bourbon Street Grill and Bar in Smallville was the top choice when we scouted for a sponsor that will host the lunch of the speakers during the Visayas Blogging Summit, a month ago. And as usual it never failed us – aside from being a big supporter of our cause, every visit is always worth it and in my case – very bloggable.
As one should probably know by know, Bourbon Street is synonymous with the best backribs in town. When the menu for the VBS lunch came out, I need not worry seeing Bourbon BBQ Ribs in it and a host of other specialties of the house. I came ahead of the pack to oversee things at Bourbon but had limited shots of the food prepared as they will be served hot.
When the “hungry pack” arrived, out came the appetizers that by the looks of it were really appetizing. The Southwest Salad came in mini bread cups and consisted of citrus marinated beef, greens, tomato confit and roasted bell pepper with French vinaigrette. The Pink Salmon and Parmesan has towers of salmon on parmesan tuille served with slices of mangoes, oranges and pears. Perfect starters for a hearty meal that became of that lunch.
A bowl Cream of Mushroom Soup and a plate of Mixed Seafood Barbecue Pasta came next and easily satisfied our palate. Then came the real specialties of house; Bourbon BBQ Ribs – grilled tender pork ribs with a bold Bourbon Barbecue Sauce, and US Beef Hotpot – Fork tender, slow braised chunks of US Beef in Red Wine Sauce. The former is always a good as my taste buds remembered but the latter was a revelation, very tender that almost melts in the mouth aside from being full of flavour in every bite. The wonderful lunch was punctuated with an exclamation of a dessert – Dark Toblerone and Walnut Cake. Served with a two-chocolate ganache, the choco-walnut bars were rich and moist that every bite makes you desire for more.
A lunch filled with usual favorites and discoveries that will surely become favored eats on their own. As our speakers and VIPs in the Visayas Blogging Summit have discovered, eat’s all good at Bourbon Street!
