Dulgies Cafe: More than just cakes and sweets

Dulgies Cafe will always be synonymous with delectable cakes and other sumptuous desserts. It is among the pioneering restaurants at La Sallete building after it was renovated and transformed into a classy gastronomic destination. Dulgies easily stood out among the rest for it is the only dessert shop among the batchoyans and native foods restos in the area. Testament to this very successful stint is another branch (co-located with it's sister restaurant Ted's Oldtimer) along Diversion Road on top of it's expanded flagship branch.

Aside from cakes and other sweets, Dulgies also offers breakfast meal combos like the bacon and corned beef plated meals with rice, egg and side dishes which are available all day long. So no matter what time of the day, one can enjoy breakfast at Dulgies!

Another staple would be pasta and their pasta carbonara is among their best sellers. Served with focaccia bread this white sauce pasta is a perfect "prelude" to a sweet ending of sweets.

But it is their sandwiches I am particularly inclined to and I am very partial with their D' Club Sandwich. The first time I ordered their club sandwich it was love at first sight and taste, so to speak. It was curiosity over it's "black rice bread" that made me order it that time and until now it still makes me curious or make others too. People usually are surprised when this order comes in front of them since it's really a big order, enough for two but good for one with a big appetite - that's me (lol). Since then I have recommended this order to many and most of them get the time the same reaction as mine.

Mama's Kitchen and Sinamay House in Arevalo

A stones throw away from the plaza of La Villa de Arevalo is an ancestral house where one can find not only good pasalubong items but also a look into the past of the district. Known as the Sinamay House , this well preserved ancestral house is an attraction not only in the outside but also what it houses inside. A collection of what the past like is housed in the two storey edifice which also acts like a museum of sorts. Sinamay is simply known as abaca by most and, here, a variety of products made from this fiber can be found. The gabi (taro) is just one of those plants which is edible from "roots to tops".
