Finally I got a reason to post these delectable food photos I put on hold for I was just waiting for the right moment and inspiration to do so. With Spain's victory in the World Cup 2010 (a few minutes ago actually), these Spanish specialty dishes would proved to be the IN thing for my blog to have now. These were among the sidelights of a gathering I attended a month ago dubbed as the Biggest Barbecue Party in Iloilo. It was a Father's Day treat from The Avenue, a complex of posh restaurants in the nightlife district of the city. These (first) two dishes which have a great Spanish influence not only looked good but also tasted great. The seafood paella was complete meal unto itself for it has the more than enough toppings over well seasoned rice. (I wish it had an OCTOPUS and not necessarily named Paul).
The next one proved to be my favorite of the night - callos ala madrilenia. Ox tripe, beef and a variety of meat with vegetables simmered in tomato sauce. A flavourful dish that surprisingly felt light in my stomach - maybe I didn't eat rice that time.
A uniquely tasting dish was this peanut crusted fish fillet with creamy (peanut?) sauce. It was good but my palate is not accustomed to a peanut and fish combo. And lastly country style fried chicken which looked good but tasted less than expected. Maybe because there were so many other meats around that this special fried chicken tasted ordinary. It was indeed a big gastronomical affair celebrated on Father's Day - great food, posh ambiance, special occasion, and one hell of a blogging experience.
