My nephew and I went to the town plaza to buy some bingka but we ended up having a quick fix at the newest snack house in town - Chico Shade. Nestled under a chico tree, this food shop is barely a week old and is conveniently located right across the town plaza.
It's modern-native ambiance and strategic location makes this a quick stop for those on the go or those just having the leisure of time. What I like first about the shop is that the space they have for their patrons - it's wide no matter how many people are crowded inside, unlike Dogsdale where it is very cramped inside out.
They have a limited menu, as of now, categorized as Hot and Cold. As my nephew chose under the Hot one - batchoy, I decided to get Cold - buko halo.
The batchoy tasted homemade and far from the likes of Ted's or Deco's despite having almost the same ingredients. The chicharon they used though are those generics one bought in buses or streets. Yet it tastes good soaked in the batchoy.
My buko halo was much better. Aside from it's appelaing presentation the ingredients were plenty and quality (no short changed) and the ice was good. It was almost very fine that it melted so fast.
It was a visit with good first impressions so this may not be the last of it for sure.
