Happy New Year

As 2008 draws to a close, FLAVOURS OF ILOILO welcomes 2009 not with 13 round fruits but with 13 (old) blog photos that keeps alive the tradition of welcoming the New Year with round things. Almost looking like fireworks is a bonus. Thank you very much for your continued visits and support. It is greatly appreciated

Mix n' match

Another lutong macau post of mine. Their store may not be as special as their buko pie, but Nang Palang's in Oton is worth the trip esp their buko pie and its variants, buko pinya and buko pandan. Never mind their bingka even though how enticing it looks. A bunch of green tambis. Frozen pancit molo filling. We always make a big batch and whatever is left makes it into lumpia or just fried like a patty. David's Tea House Express' asado sio pao. For a chinese restaurant, they do not fare well in making sio pao just like Kusina Tsina. A lollipop cookie from Cakestop is often my last resort pasalubong to my 5 year old nephew. Locally called "pitik-pitik" this crustacean is a new found good order at Breakthrough Restaurant. It almost tastes like fish. c/o www.exploreiloilo.com

Bucayo fiesta

My feature before gave you either a brown or white bucayo photos, as dictated by the sugar used. Seeing these ordinary but colorful bucayo in the grocery did not make me think twice of buying them for it would surely liven up the page.. Enjoy!

Noche Buena 2007

Yup its no typo error. This was our Noche Buena table for Christmas 2007. I just feel dismayed of not having an entry this year so I dig up last year's photos for my blog to be in season. I was all hands in this Noche Buena feast having planned, bought, cooked and made everything except for the fruits. The ham is the usual centerpiece and has this parol look which I only realized after taking a picture. Baked tuna macaroni served in two different ways. Quezo de bola is always present and served with hotdogs. Tinapayan's crema de fruta was our delectable dessert! Last minute item was this pre made pizza from Tinapayan. Very nice and delicious dinner rolls from Tinapayan. The usual assorted fruits during this season capped off our Noche Buena.

Adobo nga hantak

One of my favorite vegetables and ways of cooking it. Unlike how it is commonly done elsewhere, we cut the hantak (sitaw/string beans) short. This sure triggers my appetite anytime of the day.

Tatoy's Manukan and Seafoods

Many has been said about Tatoy's. From its humble beginnings with only a hut or two serving seafoods and its famous litsong manok to now being a favorite destination whenever in Iloilo whether for balikbayans or politicians including the presidents. From oysters and scallops to seaweeds and fish or different varieties cooked in many ways to their ever famous litsong manok cooked the usual way but marinated in a secret recipe.
