The reinvention of Amigo Shopping center

This will be my first non-food blogpost, don't worry though this will just be one of the few posts ( I hope).

After months of repairs and renovation, not to mention excitement and suspense the bits of information we get from forums, finally Amigo Plaza mall has unveiled itself via a soft opening yesterday around 2pm. A simple program that started with blessing the mall area and ended with the crowd pleasing songs and antics of actor Gabby Concepcion.

I was very lucky last Saturday. Around 1pm I decided to have my hair cut but my barber was not at the barbershop where I went to. I then decided to check out Amigo Plaza mall to see if he was there. Reaching the mall I asked the security guard about the location of the barbershop, told me and let me enter. Luckily my barber was there and I was the 2nd person to have my haircut. (The shop wasn't officially opened and blessed yet lol!)

It was hitting two birds with a single stone as I got a haircut and was able to gain access/entry to the mall and get some pictures to blog and post in forums. So I went around the mall and checked almost every nook, took some pictures & videos and waited for the program to commence.

After a few minutes of picture taking I then realized that the security guard let me enter the mall thinking I was part of the team that is preparing for the barbershops blessing and opening (lol!) .... because I saw people crowding to get inside from all the entrance doors.

If there's one thing that would be talked about regarding the new Amigo mall, would you believe it will be their COMFORT ROOM?

I have never seen or been to any comfort room looking like these even in Manila.

It also had a gigantic full length mirror that reflects all of the CR itself. Yup this photo is a reflection.

The centerpiece of the wash area is a vase and an aquarium in one. Those are live fishes swimming over there.

The Delgado street entrance teeming with people who wanted to be part of the opening ceremonies but more on wanting to see Gabby Concepcion.

Over at one of the Iznart street entrances; that one hidden from the street by the rumoured 24 hours convenience store, people also were queueing to enter.

And then they came in droves from all over.

Saying goodbye to this serene setting minutes before.

But the stage was all set for an afternoon of fun together with the special guest...

Updates will be made from time to time especially when Tribeca opens since it is this blog's purpose, food!

A complete " go, grow and glow " dish because it has the carbohydrates, protein and vitamins and minerals in just one spoonful, Valenciana is really an " occasional dish ". The gabi (taro) is just one of those plants which is edible from "roots to tops". The most popular of which is the tuber part which is used in a variety of dishes and mostly in combination with coconut milk. Its leaves, of course, is the main ingredient of a Bicol specialty, laing . It is dried then chopped and sauteed with other ingredients including, again, coconut milk. Then there is takway . The local term for its tendrils/runner, that part which is torn between being a stem or a root for it neither grows upwards nor downwards - it grows sideways . Scraped off of its outer skin, takway is often a key ingredient in vegetable dishes like laswa and the gabi tuber with coconut milk and local snails know as bago-ngon . It is also popular when cooked adobo style with guinamos , the local bago-ong . An Ilonggo favorite - Suman Latik

Suman Latik is one of my favorite native delicacies - plain suman/ibos topped with sweetened coconut strips or bukayo . Most of the time those sold in the markets have this two (suman and bukayo) already in one wrap and all you have to to is devour it. But most of the time, the bukayo portion is bitin that I wish there's more. So why not make our own suman latik so you can have all the suman we want with all the bukayo toppings we desire!
