THE phrase has caught the fancy of the young as they greet each other, “Ti kapamahaw ka na?” when they meet at school every morning. Of course, the statement is not new among Ilonggos because even before the orange tarpaulins in various overpasses carried the statement, it was already used as alternate for “hello” among kin and friends.
The streamers just underscored the whole gamut of promoting the search for a breakfast which could best represent Iloilo’s way of life. It is unfortunate to note, however, that a number of these tarps are already missing, taken down by crooks smarter than the supposed watchmen in our midst. The material is a very useful buffer against rain. It has triggered the unscrupulous to take advantage of it; they took it away. Probably it has made its way to their homes or they made some bucks out of it even before the big event – the cooking showdown at the Fountain Area of the Robinsons Place Iloilo last Saturday, 25 July 2009.
